ABOUT THIS PROJECT

When Eimund and Ronald visited Sudan in April 2025, we asked the Christian leaders a simple question: “How can we best help you?” One of the first things they told us was very clear: there is a great need for leadership training in the churches.

 

The background to this need goes back to 2011, when Sudan was divided into two countries. At that time, many Christians were given very little time to leave North Sudan and move to South Sudan. This created a serious challenge for the churches in the north, because most of their pastors and leaders originally came from the south.

 

In a very short time, many churches were left without leaders and whole denominations were affected. This has remained one of the long-term challenges for the church in Sudan.

 

Another challenge is that many church leaders and mission organizations in the West still think of Sudan and South Sudan as one country. Because of this, much of the mission work, crusades, and leadership training has taken place in South Sudan, with the assumption that this also helps the church in Sudan. As a result, Sudan has often been unintentionally overlooked.

 

That is why we are now taking the initiative to start leadership training for churches in Sudan.

 

At this stage, the training will be online, and we know that this comes with certain challenges. But we also believe there is no time to lose. Even in the middle of unrest, there is still an opening for Christian work. We want to do what we can now to strengthen the church and prepare leaders for the harvest we believe is coming.

 

This leadership training is only a first step. Our long-term vision is to see a full-time Bible school established in Khartoum — a place that can train leaders and become a sending station for mission into the Arabic-speaking world.

 

But before that can happen, we must begin by connecting with faithful local leaders and helping equip them for healthy, lasting ministry. Our desire is not only to see Sudan blessed, but to see a move of God that can reach far beyond Sudan.

 

Beginning in August, we will gather leaders every week in both Khartoum and Port Sudan for leadership training based on John Maxwell’s teaching. The training will continue until December and in December, the plan is to travel to Sudan and hold a closing ceremony for those who have completed the program.

We also want to make something very clear: if you choose to be involved, you are not in any way limited to working only with us in future ministry in Sudan. Our desire is simply to see a greater focus on mission in Sudan. If we can help bring attention to this strategic country, especially in relation to mission in the Arabic-speaking world, then we are grateful.

 

This leadership training is a major step of faith. At the same time, together with local leaders, we have found a practical and cost-effective way to give Sudanese believers a solid foundation for leadership development.

 

Some years ago, Mission 10/40 printed several of John C. Maxwell’s Million Leaders Mandate manuals in Arabic. By using this material, we can build on resources that have already been produced and save significant costs. Even so, the total cost of the project will be around NOK 60,000.

 

We are not requiring anyone who participates to contribute financially. However, if you are able to support the project, your contribution would be deeply appreciated.

 

This may seem like a small first step, but we believe it can have a lasting impact. By helping train leaders today, we are investing in the future of the church in Sudan. Our prayer is that this will not only strengthen the churches now, but also bear fruit for many years to come.
